Lucid Dreaming

Lucid dreaming is knowing you are dreaming while you are dreaming. You don't wake up. The dream carries on, and you are aware of what it is from inside it. You may be able to control the dream, or influence it. It is not the same as a vivid dream, and it is not the same as a false awakening. Lucid dreaming overlaps with out-of-body experiences, sleep paralysis and hypnagogia. People practise it for the experience itself, as a rehearsal space, and as a way of getting to know themselves. In REM sleep the eyes move but the body is paralysed — that is how Stephen LaBerge proved lucid dreaming real, with agreed eye-movement signals from inside the dream.
